Exciting news as Abbie is in the Final for Apprentice of The Year!

June 16th, 2012

Abbie Roddis began working at Fresh Cargo as a fashion apprentice in September.  It was a very new atmosphere unlike previous school and college experiences, but I think she’ll agree that it’s been an exciting and positive role.

Abbie

Abbie is in the Final for Apprentice of The Year

In the last 9 months Abbie has made amazing progress, embracing the prospect to learn and develop her skills at every opportunity. Her positive and highly motivated attitude definitely deserves to be recognised through Nottingham Business Post’s Apprentice of the Year award.

Abbie began her apprenticeship working in administration and warehousing, where she developed skills such as organisation and time management. It was clear that she was working beyond what was expected and a valuable member of our team so her role within the company expanded to working in areas such as sales, marketing and buying. This included taking part in events such as trade shows.

Fresh Cargo is a fair trade gifts company so the flexibility and broad range of skills she has managed to develop work very well.

The apprenticeship has helped Abbie to grow personally as well as having a positive effect on the company.

The scheme is mentored by founder Rebecca Gray and offers young people the chance to develop superb skills for industry in a really positive atmosphere. It has developed particularly well through Abbie’s own self- determination and upbeat approach, as she is enthusiastic and will go out of her way to do her best in whatever task she is given.

Abbie’s proactive attitude goes beyond her work at Fresh Cargo. She is also a member of her local Army Cadet Force. The combination of experiences has helped her to grow in confidence and as a young person myself I feel she is a great role model for young people today.

Fresh Cargo is the first fair trade company to support the government Apprenticeship scheme and I think it is fair to say the collaboration has been a success. Fresh Cargo are looking to take on further apprentices in the coming weeks.

Abbie is a valuable member of Fresh Cargo and the team are very proud of the achievements she has made in such a short time. Fresh Cargo wish her all the best at her awards evening on Wednesday 4th July and are very excited to be there to support her.

You’ve been fantastic and we wish you all the best.

Feel Good Fair Trade Jewellery

Black Necklace Fair Trade Jewellery

There’s so much choice when it comes to jewellery. Different colours, patterns, shapes and sizes- the list could literally go on forever! One simple decision to find a gorgeous piece that I’ll enjoy wearing is to choose fair trade jewellery. Okay, admittedly that doesn’t narrow it down too much, there’s still an amazing range of womens jewellery, but in choosing fair trade I can be certain I’ll end up with something beautiful!

Fresh Cargo’s range of fair trade jewellery is buzzin’ with gorgeous colours and unusual beads! I’m not always one for wearing the rainbow but I don’t think you can go wrong with a few bright shades when it comes to fair trade jewellery.

Wearing fair trade jewellery says a lot about you, but what’s more important is that it is also making a positive impact on the life of others. Fresh Cargo’s fair trade jewellery is hand made by a team in Thailand. The workers are paid enough to provide food, shelter and clothing for their families as well as funds for things we might take for granted like education and trips out and about.

I really feel that fair trade jewellery is the right decision when it comes to accessorising an outfit. The price of items in Fresh Cargo’s jewellery range vary from £5- £18, so there should be something to suit most budgets!

Maasai Treads Mens Flips Flops

Maasai Treads Blue Denim Castaway Flip Flops

Blue Denim Recycled Flip Flops £30

The flip flop season has finally arrived but some of the shoes I’ve seen people wearing in town this week, definitely aren’t going to survive the season with dull and lifeless soles.

When I spotted Fresh Cargo’s range of Maasai Treads flip flop shoes I could tell straight away that they would be a sturdy pair of comfortable flip flops, built to last.

The sole of the flip flops is chunky yet stylish and is amazingly made from recycled car tyres! It’s definitely an unusual choice of material but a smart one as well since it certainly makes very comfy flip flops.

The mens flip flops areunique in that they are available in larger sizes. The flip flops can be ordered up to the size 15 for only a small additional charge.

The flip flop shoes will definitely be noticed but for all the right reasons. The manufacturing of the shoes follows Fresh Cargo’s focus of fair trade and they are hand made by a small team of workers in Nairobi. They are priced between £22- £30.
